The Network
One of the hardest lessons I have learnt in a long business experience, is to trust the network.
I understand it intellectually and New Science has convincing arguments to show that everyone and everything is connected. The consistent flapping of butterfly wings over the Amazon jungle affects weather patterns thousands of miles away.
I watch carefully in Nature to see the intricate patterns of interdependence, maximising symbiosis and constantly restoring order after chaos. I envy it.
I listen to the wisdom of our African heritage – ubuntu. I participate in an African funeral and respond to the invitation of the white flag. I can feel the network.
I read Malcolm Gladwell’s book “The Tipping Point” and he shows me how the network works – the different roles and some of the rules.
It all makes exquisite sense to me, but how do I get it to work for me? What is the ticket to ride, where do I buy one and what does it cost? Surely nothing will happen if I do nothing!
It helps me to remember that a network is made up of relationships. High energy relationships have so much more to offer than low energy relationships. High energy relationships surely are the fabric of high energy networks.
I have found that energy in a relationship is the result of good quality information, hugely enhanced by deep sustaining trust.
The power and the potential of the African network fascinates me. Sharing that fascination is what we do best.
